We woke up today at 10:00 AM; Bedo--you are fired! No one will hire you to be an alarm clock. So I guess we'll have to set our alarm and not depend on one of us awaking at a reasonable time. We started out going onto the wrong interstate because I depended on our stupid GPS Garmin to take us the shortest way. Of course it didn't . That was a waste of about an hour. Then we encountered numerous constructions zones, so our time today was not that good. We left Denver late and we are now at a Comfort Inn in Kearney, Nebraska (pronounced Carney). This is the sandhill crane capital of the US, but we've missed their arrival by a couple of months (end of March beginning of April). We also missed something that I would have been interested in Bargains on Byways (here in Nebraska). It starts tomorrow, unfortunately.
On the way, a ferruginous hawk, a new species, was sighted by my husband (sorry for the passive voice here). Missed opportunities: a Military Vehicle Museum of Nebraska and a number of waterways for duck sightings.
We took major highways and might just have to get off and take some secondary roads, since it was not the most exciting ride for this passenger (although the wide open meadows were wonderful for bird sightings for the driver).
Today, we only went about 360 miles. Tomorrow after our alarm goes off, we have our free breakfast, and we pack up and check out--we should be able to go further.
I am anxious to make some miles up--poor Bob. We had lunch at McDonald's breaking one of our travel cardinal rules: eat no food at chains. However, it's a bit difficult to do otherwise when on the major highways.Dinner tonight might be Wendy's because it's next door to the hotel.
Hotel room $76, including taxes, free breakfast, right off I-80, two queen beds.
