So, when we woke up yesterday morning, my wonderful husband, knowing I was disappointed in not spending time in one of my favorite and most inspiring towns, said, "Let's spend the morning in the square." And we did. I bought a few tops in my favorite store, we had coffee, we walked around the square and some of my favorite side streets--looking at art, fossils, you know--the whole Santa Fe scene. I LOVE this city. If we were rich, I'd definitely have a place here and we could paint. The colors are magnificent and the light is weirdly perfect for seeing those colors.
We were on the road again, but had to stop at a consignment store where I saw a $2,500 horse (almost full size) made of small pieces of driftwood. I loved it and if I had a bigger house, I would have seriously considered having it shipped to Arizona. A very similar sculpture is at the art museum in New Orleans, in their sculpture garden, but, of course, it's made out of bronze. This place, Recollections, had beautiful furniture and decor items at very reasonable prices. It reminded me of Razmatazz but much better and much more reasonable. I think when we return, we will be hitting it again and staying more than one night in this beautiful town.
This stretch of roadway is pretty flat, so aside from some birds and pronghorns--it was a bit boring. I hate interstates. Hope we do very few interstates on our way to Maine.
Had a very sinful dinner at Sonic (hope Kirez is not following my blog)--a double-cheeseburger with bacon. That wouldn't have been so bad (except for the bread) but then I had a SMALL caramel shake (delicious and worth every calorie). I have to get serious again. Tomorrow.
We reached Denver at 7:30 PM and met Rebecca, Sean's girlfriend. She's very sweet and interesting--an interior designer from Montana. They are very cute together. She has a husky named Yukon who reminded us of a much larger Katerina. Beautiful dog. We went to Old Chicago because they hadn't eaten. I was still stuffed from Sonic, so I had a Amstel Light.
By the time we got home, it was 10 PM so it was too late for me to work. That will have to come tomorrow, because today is a very busy day. Lunch with my sister-cousin, Sandra, and the Elizabeth rodeo tonight with Sean, Rebecca, Bob, and whoever else joins us.
It's real--we're gone and it's 111 degrees in Phoenix today. Hallelujah!
